Norway Volunteer Fire Department responds to bedroom fire today

IRON MOUNTAIN — There were no injuries reported after a bedroom fire at 118 Beckstrom St. in Norway this morning.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at 6:30 a.m. after a candlelit bedding material aflame, Fire Chief Dave Bal of the Norway Volunteer Fire Department said.

The residents were able to safely evacuate the home.

Though the fire was contained, the bedroom sustained extensive fire damage, Bal said. The floor below was damaged by water.

Firefighters returned to the station at 9 a.m.

The fire department was assisted by the Norway Police Department, Norway Electric Department, DTE Energy and North Alert Ambulance Services.
