NORWAY -- A former student has been arrested after a Snapchat post online Monday evening that reportedly threatened Norway-Vulcan Area Schools.
The post showed a picture of a gun clip and gun with a message to the school, said Norway-Vulcan Superintendent Louis Steigerwald, who was notified between 10 and 10:30 p.m. Monday by high school Principal Joe Tinti.
"We took this very seriously and immediately called the Norway Police Department," Steigerwald said. "We were able to show them the video as well as give them the name of the individual who posted the threat."
The 18-year-old Norway man was taken into custody at his home within an hour, Steigerwald said. He now is in the Dickinson County Jail awaiting arraignment for terroristic threats against the school, according to the Norway Police Department. His name was not being released until his court appearance.
Steigerwald said the teen had a dispute with other students that traced back to the Dickinson County Fair in late August.
Classes met as scheduled today, though social media had a number of messages and posts with questions about the situation and whether to send children to school.
"We know parents and members of the community are worried," Steigerwald said.
Steigerwald said they would have taken a whole different approach this morning at school had they been unable to connect with the person behind the video.
Steigerwald also met with the Norway police this morning about rumors that other students or a “gang” might be involved.
"We have no evidence that there anyone else involved," he said.
