Teen enters not guilty plea for school threat

IRON MOUNTAIN — An 18-year-old former Norway student accused of threatening Norway-Vulcan Area Schools in a Snapchat video message Nov. 4 pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Dickinson County Circuit Court.

Trentin McWilliams is charged with making a false report or threat of terrorism, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

McWilliams waived arraignment and was not required to appear in court in person. The not guilty plea was entered on his behalf by Dickinson County Circuit Judge Mary Barglind.

According to the criminal complaint, McWilliams admitted to Norway Police Department officers he posted photos and a video of himself with a handgun and ammunition to social media Nov. 4, along with threatening messages that were viewed by students, parents and school officials.

A pre-trial conference is set for Jan. 20.
