Iron River man killed in Florence collision

FLORENCE, Wis. — An 87-year-old Iron River man died Friday after a three-vehicle collision near the intersection of U.S. 2 and 1st Crossing Road in Florence, Wis.

Florence County deputies responded to the crash at 11:08 a.m., according to a news release from Florence County Sheriff Dan Miller.

Bystanders removed the 87-year-old from his vehicle and had been administering life-saving measures when deputies arrived, Miller stated.

The man was transported to the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

An initial investigation showed one vehicle was stopped in traffic indicating a left turn as a second vehicle waited behind. The third vehicle, driven by the 87-year-old man, did not stop or slow and rear-ended the second vehicle, which in turn crashed into the first.

The driver of the second vehicle was also transported to the DCMH and treated for minor injuries, Miller said.

The names of those involved have not been released as the collision remains under investigation.

Florence County deputies were assisted by the Florence Rescue Squad, Florence Fire Department and Integrity Care EMS.
