Pembine man could face prison time on third OWI charge

MICHAEL REED

IRON MOUNTAIN — Sentencing is set for March 3 for a Pembine, Wis., man who has pleaded guilty in Dickinson County Circuit Court to driving while drunk.

Michael Reed, 56, was convicted Tuesday of operating while intoxicated, third offense, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

As a two-time habitual offender, Reed could serve as many as 7 1/2 years in prison.

Reed initially had been charged as a four-time habitual offender and could have served up to life in prison, but Dickinson County Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Richards agreed to reduce the notice in exchange for his guilty plea.

In addition, Richards agreed to recommend a sentence within the applicable guideline range.

According to the criminal complaint, Reed was stopped for speeding Nov. 15 by troopers from the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post.

Reed reportedly smelled of intoxicants and admitted to drinking. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests and registered .245% blood-alcohol content on a preliminary breath test, the complaint stated.
