Mackinac Bridge to stop accepting cash

ST. IGNACE — The Mackinac Bridge Authority starting Saturday will not accept cash transactions, in accordance with state COVID-19 recommendations.

Drivers will need to use a credit or debit card, or have a MacPass card or windshield sticker.

The MBA and toll staff have been encouraging non-cash payments over the past few days until cash no longer is accepted.

If drivers need to pay with a credit or debit card, the toll collector will hold a credit card device out rather than handle the card.

The MBA previously announced it was suspending its driver assistance program and snowmobile, passenger and bicyclist transportation programs as part of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Starting at $3.50/week.
