IRON MOUNTAIN — A number of homes had to be evacuated for several hours Saturday after a gas leak at a residence in the 100 block of West D Street in Iron Mountain.

Firefighters were called to the residence at 1:16 p.m. after the homeowner unintentionally severed the gas line to the house, according to the Iron Mountain Fire Department.

The IMFD evacuated the residence and surrounding homes and contacted DTE Energy, staying on site until workers arrived.

No one was injured in the incident. Firefighters returned to the station at 3:52 p.m.

The IMFD was assisted by the Iron Mountain Police Department.
