Marquette Township man injured in fire
MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A Marquette Township man was treated for burns authorities said were caused by a fire from making methamphetamine.
The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team were called to the Whetstone Apartments about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to assist Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post. Troopers who first arrived determined a man was trying to manufacture meth when a chemical reaction started a fire in the bathroom of his apartment.
The man was taken to UP Health System-Marquette. The Marquette Township Fire Department put out the fire, which caused only minor damage to the bathroom.
Since meth-related components were found in the man’s apartment, residents in the entire building were evacuated until the Marquette County Health Department allowed them to return.
The incident remains under investigation.
