Foster Wonders signs with Southern Illinois

IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain High School hoops star Foster Wonders made his much anticipated college commitment announcement today.

“I choose Southern Illinois University because they play in such a strong basketball conference,” Wonders said in an interview Monday morning. “They have a spot for me right away, the head coach has expressed a great deal of interest.”

The Mountaineer senior was named U.P Mr. Basketball by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association the last two seasons. Wonders had 13 Division I schools to choose from, including Western Michigan University, University of Toledo, Rice University, Central Michigan University, Oakland University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Miami University of Ohio, University of North Carolina-Wilmington, Wright State University, South Dakota State, Davidson University and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Northern Michigan University, where his older brother Carson plays and his parents Matt and Julie Wonders played, offered Carson a scholarship when he was in eighth grade.

See Tuesday’s edition of The Daily News for a full feature story on the development.
