IRON MOUNTAIN — Two men were injured and two buildings were damaged in a collision at 7:35 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of East A Street and Stephenson Avenue in downtown Iron Mountain, police said.
A pickup truck that was westbound on East A Street failed to stop for a red light at the Stephenson Avenue intersection and hit a northbound passenger car, said Ed Mattson, director of police and fire services.
Both adult male drivers were transported to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital by Integrity Care EMS for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, Mattson said.
The collision caused the car to strike the Split Endz salon building at 426 S. Stephenson Ave., on the northwest corner of the intersection, while the pickup truck hit the Wishing Well gift shop at 427 S. Stephenson Ave., on the northeast corner. Both structures had damage.
Denise Maule, who co-owns Split Enz with Diane Smith, said the west room of the building, the front window and foundation of the building were damaged, forcing them to shut down power and the business for the day.
The salon’s four stylists and two tattoo artists were expected to return to work today except for Maule, who said she will remain out until a makeshift station can be set up. The business does body waxing, hair and eyelash extensions, spray tanning, body piercing and microblading, she said.
The Iron Mountain police and fire departments responded and the accident remains under investigation, Mattson said.
