Five new COVID-19 positives in Iron County

The number of COVID-19 positives continued to climb Friday in Iron County, with five new cases to reach 44 confirmed, according to local health officials.

Dickinson County also added three positives for a total of 74, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department reported Friday afternoon on Facebook.

In the Wisconsin part of the region, the Forest County Health Department announced Friday on Facebook it has asked neighboring counties for tracking assistance after another 22 people were diagnosed for COVID-19, bringing its total to 146 confirmed cases.

The county has seen a major spike in COVID-19 activity, including having two Crandon School District students, at the high school and elementary buildings, test positive for the virus.

County health officials advised that because of the mutual aid, “individuals may receive phone calls from other county health departments, the Forest County Potawatomi Community Health Department and the Sokaogon Chippewa Health Clinic.”

Wisconsin’s COVID-19 data site Friday did not reflect all of the new Forest County positives but did increase its total by 10. For other Wisconsin counties in the region, the state added eight new cases in Marinette County and three in Florence County.

Across the Upper Peninsula, the state’s COVID-19 data site indicated 11 new positives in Houghton County; six in Delta County; three each in Dickinson, Marquette and Mackinac counties; and one each in Iron, Menominee, Baraga, Gogebic, Ontonagon and Chippewa counties.

The state and Public Health, Delta and Menominee Counties reported a fourth COVID-19 death in Delta County, with the health department listing 177 cases for Delta County, three more than state’s tally.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services data site Friday had Keweenaw County with four confirmed cases and two probable; Baraga County, seven confirmed cases and three probable; Luce County, 10 confirmed cases; Schoolcraft County, 16 confirmed cases and one probable; Alger County, 16 confirmed and one probable; Mackinac County, 36 confirmed cases and 14 probable; Ontonagon County, 36 confirmed and one probable; Iron County, 41

confirmed cases, three probable and one death; Chippewa County, 45 confirmed cases and 22 probable; Dickinson County, 72 confirmed cases, one probable and two deaths; Gogebic County, 139 confirmed cases, 10 probable and a death; Houghton County, 163 confirmed cases, 34 probable and one death; Delta County, 174 confirmed cases, 30 probable and four deaths; Menominee County, 234 confirmed cases and 31 probable; and Marquette County, 238 confirmed cases, 43 probable and 11 deaths. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS also earlier separately had prison inmates who were positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

Using only the state figures Friday, the Upper Peninsula has had 1,233 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date with 20 deaths.

The MDHHS reported 1,313 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Friday for a total of 110,832 to date. The state added nine new deaths Friday for a total of 6,578.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Friday had Marinette County with 655 confirmed cases, 18 probable cases and seven deaths; Vilas County, 136 confirmed, three probable and a death; Iron County, 132 confirmed, seven probable and one death; Forest County, 129 confirmed, two probable and four deaths; and Florence County, 37 confirmed. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin recorded 1,369 new positives in the state Friday for a total of 86,250, according to the state DHS data site. The state had four new COVID-19 deaths Friday to reach 1,197.

According to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department, Dickinson County as of Friday has had 74 confirmed COVID-19 positives and one probable case, with 59 recovered, two deaths and 14 cases still active. Iron County has had 44 confirmed positives and three probables, with 20 recovered, one death and 26 still active.

Dickinson County Healthcare System as of Friday showed 19 cases from Dickinson County and 45 cases from other counties; those counties are not identified. DCHS has tested 3,424 people for COVID-19, with 64 positive, 3,290 negative and 70 results still pending. DCHS noted there are several additional sources of testing in Dickinson County.
