Rep. LaFave tests positive for coronavirus

IRON MOUNTAIN — State Rep. Beau LaFave revealed Tuesday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a Facebook post, LaFave, R-Iron Mountain, said he was feeling better after “the worst of my symptoms came and went this weekend.”

He said he tested positive Tuesday after self-quarantining at home.

“For my neighbors in the U.P., there is no need to worry,” he said. “After coming home from Lansing late Thursday night, I have not come into contact with anyone. I will continue to follow the best medical guidance and protocols to make sure that stays the case.”

LaFave said he is working with staff at the Capitol to inform everyone who was in contact with him during votes on the budget and other topics last week.

“Fortunately, I was following the strict protocols we have in place before I was tested, including social distancing, frequent hand sanitizing/washing, and wearing a mask,” he said.

A joint House-Senate pandemic oversight committee hearing was canceled as a precaution following the news of LaFave’s test.
