Virus exposure advisory issued by Florence health officials

FLORENCE, Wis. – The Florence County Health Department on Tuesday reported another possible COVID-19 exposure site, this time in Long Lake.

Two people who have since tested positive were at Sach’s Rendezvous on Highway 139 from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, before they experienced symptoms, said Annette Seibold, health officer.

Michigan health officials are contacting others with whom one of the individuals had close contact, she said.

“If you think you were exposed at the establishment during this time, stay home and isolate and call your health care provider for further direction,” Seibold said. “Establishments have been contacted by the health department and continue to follow safety guidelines.”

As of Tuesday, Florence County had 27 confirmed virus cases, according to Wisconsin’s COVID-19 data site.

In the Upper Peninsula on Tuesday, Michigan’s data site showed four new positives in Houghton County, three in Menominee County, two in Delta and Marquette counties and one in Ontonagon. Public Health, Delta & Menominee Counties listed one more case for Menominee County above the state tally, for 223 total.

Wisconsin’s COVID-19 data site Tuesday indicated six new cases in Vilas County, four in Marinette County, two in Florence County and one in Iron County. The Forest County Health Department on Facebook stated it had reached 81 cases, two more since Monday and three more than state figures show. Iron County reported 126 cases, three more than the state.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County with two confirmed cases; Luce County, five confirmed cases; Baraga County, six confirmed cases and two probable; Schoolcraft County, 14 confirmed cases and one probable; Alger County, 16 confirmed and one probable; Mackinac County, 29 confirmed cases and eight probable; Iron County, 33 confirmed cases, two probable and one death; Ontonagon County, 34 confirmed and one probable; Chippewa County, 37 confirmed cases and 21 probable; Houghton County, 66 confirmed cases, 14 probable and one death; Dickinson County, 64 confirmed cases, one probable and two deaths; Delta County, 132 confirmed cases, 28 probable and three deaths; Gogebic County, 134 confirmed

cases, 10 probable and a death; Marquette County, 212 confirmed cases, 36 probable and 11 deaths; and Menominee County, 222 confirmed cases and 31 probable. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services also earlier separately had prison inmates who were positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

Using only the state figures Tuesday, the Upper Peninsula has had 1,008 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date with 19 deaths.

The MDHSS reported 718 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Tuesday for a total of 103,186 to date. The state added 15 new deaths Tuesday – including eight that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS – for a total of 6,495.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Tuesday had Marinette County with 614 confirmed cases, 20 probable cases and six deaths; Iron County 123 confirmed, five probable and one death; Vilas County 111 confirmed and one probable; Forest County, 78 confirmed, two probable and four deaths; and Florence County, 27 confirmed. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin recorded 981 new positives in the state Tuesday for a total of 76,584 to date, according to the state DHS data site. The state had eight new COVID-19 deaths Tuesday for a total of 1,130.

According to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department, Dickinson County as of Tuesday has had 66 confirmed COVID-19 positives and one probable case, with 49 recovered, two deaths and 16 cases still active. Iron County has had 32 confirmed positives and two probable, with 16 recovered, one death and 17 still active.

Dickinson County Healthcare System as of Tuesday showed 19 cases from Dickinson County and 35 cases from other counties; those counties are not identified. DCHS has tested 3,165 people for COVID-19, with 54 positive, 3,074 negative and 37 results still pending. DCHS noted there are several additional sources of testing in Dickinson County.
