IRON MOUNTAIN — A downtown building was damaged but no injuries were reported in a three-car crash Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of East Hughitt Street and Stephenson Avenue.

One of the vehicles involved hit the side of Antonio’s Pizza and Pasta building, causing damage, said Ed Mattson, Iron Mountain director of police and fire services.

A westbound SUV that was trying to cross Stephenson Avenue failed to yield to two southbound vehicles. The SUV had stopped for the stop sign, but tried to cross after being waved into the intersection by another driver stopped on Stephenson for backed-up traffic, Mattson said.

“The public is reminded that just because someone motions for you to go or pull out does not mean that it is clear or that you have the right of way,” he said.

Iron Mountain Fire Department also responded to the crash, which occurred at 1:35 p.m.
