Community events planned for Halloween

IRON MOUNTAIN — Due to the pandemic, many Halloween activities have been canceled or changed for safety reasons.

Area events still going on include:

— Dickinson County Healthcare Systems will host its eighth annual trunk or treat from 10 a.m. to noon today.

This year it will be a drive-through event. Those attending are asked to enter the driveway near the emergency department entrance. Kids and their parents can then proceed in their cars to the west side of the hospital parking area and enjoy the decorated cards and trunks. Before exiting the trunk and treat event, kids will receive a Halloween treat bag.

— The Longbranch in Faithorn will host a trunk or treat from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, in the parking lot. They encourage volunteers to come and set up to hand out treats to the children. Everyone is welcome to attend.

— Mansfield will be unable to celebrate Halloween with the usual costume parade, games, pinata and pumpkin contest. However, the Wicked Witch of the West has agreed to fly in on her broomstick to greet the kids and hand out goodie bags all while maintaining COVID-19 safety guidelines. All Mansfield residents, family and friends are invited to stop by.

The witch, along with her ghoulish assistant, will be at the Mansfield Township Hall on from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, positioned on the entry steps. All treat bags will be individually wrapped and handed out with gloved hands. Brunhilda and her helper will also have protective facemasks in place under their Halloween masks. Adults accompanying children are asked to also wear their protective face coverings.

— Recreation Lanes in Iron Mountain will host its annual Spooky Bowl, but a little different than prior years. It will be held over two days to spread it out for social distancing. There will be eight costume contests, one per hour.

Only pre-registered adults and kids will be allowed, with no walk-ins.

Bowlers must call Recreation Lanes for a bowling time from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday or noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.

They note that those attending will only be there for an hour.

— There will be a classic movie showing of “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Braumart Theatre in Iron Mountain. Only limited seating will be available.

The 1993 film directed by Henry Selick is rated PG. It runs an hour and 16 minutes. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children. All tickets will be sold at the door.

— The second annual Miscauno Island Fall Fest is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. They will have many activities for the whole family, including a vendor show, bounce house, hay rides, trick or treating, pumpkin bowling, pumpkin decorating, caramel apples and s’mores.
