Iron County moose
Two bull moose lock horns Thursday in a wooded area of Iron County, about 10 miles north of Crystal Falls. A cow
also wandered through, perhaps explaining the fight. Only a handful of moose remained in the Upper Peninsula in the mid-1980s when the Michigan Department of Natural Resources translocated 59 moose from Canada and released them in Marquette County. In 2019 an aerial survey estimated the herd at 509 animals in Marquette, Baraga and Iron counties.
