Officers fatally shoot suspect in Goodman death

MARINETTE, Wis. — Law enforcement from the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office shot and killed a man suspected in the death of another man Friday evening at a Goodman, Wis., home, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice.

When law enforcement went to the residence about 5 p.m. Friday on a report of a possible homicide, a man fled in a vehicle. After a pursuit, the vehicle stopped and the man got out and pointed a firearm at officers, who opened fire in response, according to a DOJ news release. The man died of his wounds at the site.

No law enforcement were injured.

The DOJ’s Division of Criminal Investigations is investigating the shooting, and the Marinette County officers involved have been placed on administrative assignment, according to department policy.

The Marinette County Sheriff’s office is investigating the death of the first man as a homicide.

No names have been released and no further information was available, per the DOJ.

Assisting in the incident are Marinette County District Attorney’s office, Marinette County Medical Examiner, Goodman Fire and Rescue, Florence County Sheriff’s Office, Forest County Sheriff’s Office, Marinette Police department, Wisconsin State Patrol, DOJ Office of Crime Victim Services and the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratories.
