Dickinson adds 7 virus deaths, 7 new cases

Dickinson County had another somber COVID-19 day Thursday, with local health officials reporting seven new virus-related deaths, bringing the total to 51 lost to the pandemic so far.

The number of deaths Thursday equaled the number of new confirmed coronavirus positives in Dickinson County. The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department on Thursday posted on Facebook seven new cases of COVID-19 in Dickinson County, along with 12 probable cases and 20 recovered cases. Iron County on Thursday had five new confirmed cases, one probable case and four recovered cases.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department on Thursday had Dickinson County at 1,725 confirmed positives and 112 probable cases, with 799 recovered, 51 deaths and 987 cases still active. Iron County has had 707 confirmed cases and 41 probables, with 480 recovered, 31 deaths and 237 cases still active, according to the DIDHD.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday listed 223 more confirmed positives: 77 in Marquette County, 43 in Houghton County, 30 in Chippewa County, 18 in Gogebic County, 16 in Delta County, 11 in Dickinson County, 10 in Schoolcraft County, five in Mackinac and Ontonagon counties, three in Baraga County, two in Iron and Menominee counties, and one in Alger County. The state listed six new deaths in Dickinson County, two in Houghton County and one new deaths each in Iron, Menominee, Baraga and Gogebic counties.

In total for the U.P., the MDHHS on Thursday had Keweenaw County at 57 confirmed cases and 14

probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 118 confirmed cases and 52 probable; Alger County, 160 confirmed, 80 probable and one death, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 174 confirmed cases and 10 probable, one death and one probable; Mackinac County, 225 confirmed cases and 87 probable, one death; Ontonagon County, 261 confirmed, 27 probable and 13 deaths, one probable; Chippewa County, 399 confirmed cases and 526 probable, and six deaths; Baraga County, 422 confirmed cases, 72 probable and 24 deaths; Gogebic County, 615 confirmed cases and 226 probable, 12 confirmed deaths and 12 probable deaths; Iron County, 703 confirmed cases and 38 probable, 30 confirmed deaths and four probable; Menominee County, 1,243 confirmed cases, 145 probable and 19 deaths; Houghton County, 1,332 confirmed cases, 298 probable, 13 confirmed deaths and two probable; Dickinson County, 1,720 confirmed cases and 111 probable, 45 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Delta County, 2,272 confirmed cases and 316 probable, 51 confirmed deaths and 12 probable; and Marquette County, 2,727 confirmed cases, 323 probable and 30 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only Thursday’s state figures, the Upper Peninsula has had 12,428 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date and 246 deaths.

The MDHHS on Thursday reported 7,146 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan for a total of 380,343 to date. The state added 175 new deaths Thursday — including 112 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 9,580.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, that state’s COVID-19 data site Thursday listed 16 new positives in Vilas County, 15 in Marinette County, five in Forest County and one each in Florence and Iron counties.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Thursday had Marinette County with 3,027 confirmed cases, 254 probable cases and 29 deaths; Vilas County, 1,303 confirmed, 36 probable and 13 deaths; Forest County, 738 confirmed, 46 probable and 18 deaths, plus two probable deaths; Iron County, 364 confirmed, 69 probable and 10 deaths, four probable; and Florence County, 334 confirmed, 23 probable and 12 deaths. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin had 4,618 new positives Thursday for a total of 399,708 confirmed cases. The state added 60 deaths Thursday to reach 3,562.
