Dickinson reports two virus deaths

Local health officials Tuesday reported two new deaths in Dickinson County attributed to COVID-19, even as the number of new confirmed positives continues to appear in decline.

Dickinson County on Tuesday added seven new confirmed virus positives along with 48 recoveries. Iron County had seven new cases and 12 recovered.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department on Tuesday listed Dickinson County at 1,941 confirmed positives and 171 probable cases, with 1,518 recovered, 63 deaths and 531 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD showed 758 confirmed cases and 45 probables, with 657 recovered, 34 deaths and 112 still active.

Across the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus data site Tuesday added a total of 91 new confirmed positives in the region: 66 in Chippewa County, eight in Menominee County, six in Dickinson and Houghton counties, three in Baraga County, two in Marquette County, and one each in Delta and Gogebic counties; the state also reduced the counts in Alger and Schoolcraft counties by one each. Menominee counties Tuesday, along with one in Gogebic County.

In total for the U.P., the data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 62 confirmed cases and 15 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 125 confirmed cases and 62 probable; Alger County, 185 confirmed, 101 probable and one death, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 195 confirmed cases and 16 probable, three deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 253 confirmed cases and 112 probable, two deaths; Ontonagon County, 274 confirmed, 29 probable and 14 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 450 confirmed cases, 94 probable and 28 deaths; Chippewa County, 570 confirmed cases and 738 probable, and 10 deaths, two probable; Gogebic County, 700 confirmed cases and 289 probable, 14 confirmed deaths and 20 probable deaths; Iron County, 750 confirmed cases and 42 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and five probable; Menominee County, 1,395 confirmed cases, 212 probable and 25 deaths; Houghton County, 1,556 confirmed cases, 382 probable, 23 confirmed deaths and seven probable; Dickinson County, 1,936 confirmed cases and 169 probable, 53 confirmed deaths and 13 probable; Delta County, 2,438 confirmed cases and 403 probable, 57 confirmed deaths and 17 probable; and Marquette County, 3,059 confirmed cases, 390 probable and 49 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula on Tuesday has had 13,946 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date and 312 deaths.

The MDHHS on Tuesday reported 3,082 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan for a total of 466,485 to date. The state added 173 new deaths Tuesday — including 72 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 11,705.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state’s COVID-19 data site Tuesday showed 19 new positives in Vilas County, 13 in Marinette County, 10 in Forest County, four in Iron County and two in Florence County. Iron County had three new deaths.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Tuesday had Marinette County with 3,451 confirmed cases, 314 probable cases and 39 deaths; Vilas County, 1,531 confirmed, 59 probable and 21 deaths, two probable deaths; Forest County, 813 confirmed, 59 probable and 21 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 410 confirmed, 107 probable and 13 deaths, 12 probable; and Florence County, 391 confirmed, 22 probable and 12 deaths. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 2,403 new positives Tuesday for a total of 461,015 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The state recorded 120 deaths Tuesday to reach 4,545.
