Local virus numbers continue to level off

The rise in COVID-19 positives in Dickinson and Iron counties continues to slow, with seven and one new case respectively Wednesday, according to local health officials reports.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department on Wednesday listed Dickinson County at 1,948 confirmed positives and 172 probable cases, with 1,528 recovered, 63 deaths and 529 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD showed 759 confirmed cases and 45 probables, with 657 recovered, 34 deaths and 113 still active.

Across the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus data site Wednesday had 12 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Delta and Marquette counties; 11 in Menominee County; nine in Dickinson County; seven in Iron County; two in Baraga County; and one each in Keweenaw, Luce and Mackinac counties. But the state also removed 55 cases from Chippewa County’s total — after adding 66 on Tuesday — and one from Houghton County, so the region’s overall count was unchanged Wednesday. Delta, Houghton, Gogebic and Chippewa counties all had one new death.

In total for the U.P., the data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 63 confirmed cases and 15 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 126 confirmed cases and 61 probable; Alger County, 185 confirmed, 105 probable and one death, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 195 confirmed cases and 16 probable, three deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 254 confirmed cases and 112 probable, two deaths; Ontonagon County, 274 confirmed, 29 probable and 14 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 452 confirmed cases, 94 probable and 28 deaths; Chippewa County, 515 confirmed cases and 738 probable, and 11 deaths, two probable; Gogebic County, 700 confirmed cases and 288 probable, 15 confirmed deaths and 21 probable deaths; Iron County, 757 confirmed cases and 43 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and five probable; Menominee County, 1,406 confirmed cases, 214 probable and 25 deaths; Houghton County, 1,555 confirmed cases, 384 probable, 24 confirmed deaths and seven probable; Dickinson County, 1,945 confirmed cases and 171 probable, 53 confirmed deaths and 13 probable; Delta County, 2,450 confirmed cases and 403 probable, 58 confirmed deaths and 17 probable; and Marquette County, 3,071 confirmed cases, 403 probable and 49 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula on Wednesday has had 13,948 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date and 316 deaths.

The MDHHS on Wednesday reported 3,443 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan for a total of 469,928 to date. The state added 70 new deaths Wednesday to reach 11,775.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state’s COVID-19 data site Wednesday showed six new confirmed virus positives in Vilas County, four in Marinette County and three in Forest County; Iron County’s count was reduced by one. Forest County had one new death.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Wednesday had Marinette County with 3,455 confirmed cases, 315 probable cases and 39 deaths; Vilas County, 1,537 confirmed, 60 probable and 21 deaths, two probable deaths; Forest County, 816 confirmed, 59 probable and 22 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 409 confirmed, 107 probable and 13 deaths, 12 probable; and Florence County, 391 confirmed, 23 probable and 12 deaths. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 2,579 new positives Wednesday for a total of 463,594 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The state recorded 69 deaths Wednesday to reach 4,614.
