MDHHS lists 21 new virus cases in Menominee County
Across the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus data site Saturday listed 70 new confirmed positives in the region but also decreased counts in several counties by a total of 26 cases.
The MDHHS on Saturday added 21 new confirmed positives in Menominee County; 15 in Houghton County; 13 in Marquette County; seven in Chippewa County; three in Dickinson, Iron and Alger counties; two in Mackinac County; and one each in Gogebic, Ontonagon and Schoolcraft counties. But the site lowered Baraga County’s count by 14 and Delta and Keweenaw counties each by six, leaving the region with a net gain of 44.
The MDHHS also posted three new deaths in Houghton County and one each in Dickinson, Menominee, Chippewa and Gogebic counties.
In total for the U.P., the data site Saturday had Keweenaw County at 62 confirmed cases and 14 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 125 confirmed cases and 61 probable; Alger County, 185 confirmed, 95 probable and one death, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 195 confirmed cases and 16 probable, three deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 252 confirmed cases and 109 probable, two deaths; Ontonagon County, 273 confirmed, 29 probable and 14 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 445 confirmed cases, 94 probable and 28 deaths; Chippewa County, 494 confirmed cases and 711 probable, and 10 deaths, two probable; Gogebic County, 701 confirmed cases and 290 probable, 13 confirmed deaths and 19 probable deaths; Iron County, 746 confirmed cases and 43 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and five probable; Menominee County, 1,381 confirmed cases, 190 probable and 23 deaths; Houghton County, 1,547 confirmed cases, 381 probable, 20 confirmed deaths and six probable; Dickinson County, 1,920 confirmed cases and 159 probable, 53 confirmed deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 2,429 confirmed cases and 391 probable, 56 confirmed deaths and 17 probable; and Marquette County, 3,033 confirmed cases, 383 probable and 48 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Using only the state’s figures Saturday, the Upper Peninsula has had 13,788 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date and 304 deaths.
The MDHHS on Saturday reported 3,896 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan for a total of 458,852 to date. The state added 187 new deaths Saturday — including 155 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 11,461. The MDHHS no longer updates its figures on Sundays.
For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state’s COVID-19 data site for the weekend showed 23 new cases in Marinette County, 19 in Vilas County, three in Florence County, two in Forest County and one in Iron County. Forest County had the only new death.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Sunday had Marinette County with 3,424 confirmed cases, 309 probable cases and 39 deaths; Vilas County, 1,507 confirmed, 56 probable and 21 deaths, two probable deaths; Forest County, 800 confirmed, 57 probable and 21 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 406 confirmed, 101 probable and 10 deaths, 10 probable; and Florence County, 388 confirmed, 22 probable and 12 deaths. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Wisconsin added 3,675 new positives Saturday and 1,826 on Sunday for a total of 457,177 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The state recorded 84 deaths Saturday and 18 on Sunday to reach 4,417.
