New virus death, 118 recoveries in Dickinson County

Dickinson County has a new death related to COVID-19 but also 118 cases now considered recovered from the virus as of Monday afternoon, local health officials reported.

Dickinson County has had 29 more confirmed COVID-19 positives since local figures last were updated Wednesday before the Christmas holiday period, while Iron County had eight new cases and 35 more recoveries, according to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department.

The DIDHD on Monday listed Dickinson County at 1,977 confirmed positives and 180 probable cases, with 1,646 recovered, 64 deaths and 447 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD showed 767 confirmed cases and 45 probables, with 692 recovered, 34 deaths and 86 still active.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus data site Monday appeared to still show signs of a slowdown in reporting due to the long holiday break. The MDHHS website listed only 30 new confirmed coronavirus positives in the Upper Peninsula since Saturday: six in Marquette and Chippewa counties; three in Dickinson County; two in Iron, Menominee, Baraga, Keweenaw and Houghton counties; and one each in Delta, Gogebic, Mackinac, Schoolcraft and Alger counties. The state did not indicate any new deaths for the region.

In total for the U.P., the data site Monday had Keweenaw County at 66 confirmed cases and 15 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 127 confirmed cases and 68 probable; Alger County, 189 confirmed, 111 probable and one death, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 196 confirmed cases and 17 probable, three deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 260 confirmed cases and 116 probable, two deaths; Ontonagon County, 275 confirmed, 29 probable and 15 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 456 confirmed cases, 88 probable and 28 deaths; Chippewa County, 541 confirmed cases and 771 probable, and 11 deaths, two probable; Gogebic County, 703 confirmed cases and 293 probable, 15 confirmed deaths and 23 probable; Iron County, 765 confirmed cases and 44 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and five probable; Menominee County, 1,422 confirmed cases, 228 probable and 25 deaths; Houghton County, 1,570 confirmed cases, 386 probable, 24 confirmed deaths and seven probable; Dickinson County, 1,971 confirmed cases and 179 probable, 54 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,460 confirmed cases and 409 probable, 58 confirmed deaths and 17 probable; and Marquette County, 3,117 confirmed cases, 413 probable and 51 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 14,118 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 320 deaths.

The MDHHS on Monday reported 3,239 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan since Saturday for a total of 480,508. The state added 60 new deaths since Saturday to reach 12,089.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state’s COVID-19 data site Monday showed two new confirmed positives in Iron County and one each in Marinette, Forest and Vilas counties.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Monday had Marinette County with 3,493 confirmed cases, 322 probable cases and 42 deaths; Vilas County, 1,565 confirmed, 62 probable and 21 deaths, two probable deaths; Forest County, 828 confirmed, 59 probable and 22 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 415 confirmed, 107 probable and 15 deaths, 14 probable; and Florence County, 394 confirmed, 23 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 1,335 new positives Monday for a total of 472,153 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The state recorded 19 deaths Monday to reach 4,692.
