Third-grade students at Bishop Baraga Catholic School in Iron Mountain recently participated in a service project for Christmas. The students raised money to buy baby chicks for poor families overseas. During math class the students added up all the money they raised, which came to $112. This allowed them to purchase eight dozen chicks. A dozen chicks can grow up to produce 2,000 eggs, so the students figured out that eight dozen chicks could produce more than 16,000 eggs. Families can use these eggs for meals or to be sold as income.
