State: 23 new COVID cases in Dickinson

State health officials Saturday indicated 23 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County since it last provided new figures Wednesday.

Across the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus data site Saturday had 140 new confirmed coronavirus positives since its update before the holiday break: 40 in Marquette County; 23 in Dickinson County; 20 in Chippewa County; 14 in Menominee County; 13 in Houghton County; nine in Delta County; six in Iron County; five in Mackinac County; three in Alger County; two in Baraga and Gogebic counties; and one each in Keweenaw, Luce and Ontonagon counties. Marquette County had two new deaths, Dickinson and Ontonagon counties one each.

In total for the U.P., the data site Saturday had Keweenaw County at 64 confirmed cases and 15 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 127 confirmed cases and 64 probable; Alger County, 188 confirmed, 109 probable and one death, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 195 confirmed cases and 16 probable, three deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 259 confirmed cases and 113 probable, two deaths; Ontonagon County, 275 confirmed, 29 probable and 15 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 454 confirmed cases, 86 probable and 28 deaths; Chippewa County, 535 confirmed cases and 761 probable, and 11 deaths, two probable; Gogebic County, 702 confirmed cases and 291 probable, 15 confirmed deaths and 23 probable; Iron County, 763 confirmed cases and 43 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and five probable; Menominee County, 1,420 confirmed cases, 223 probable and 25 deaths; Houghton County, 1,568 confirmed cases, 383 probable, 24 confirmed deaths and seven probable; Dickinson County, 1,968 confirmed cases and 176 probable, 54 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,459 confirmed cases and 408 probable, 58 confirmed deaths and 17 probable; and Marquette County, 3,111 confirmed cases, 408 probable and 51 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Saturday has had 14,088 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 320 deaths.

The MDHHS on Saturday reported 7,341 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan since its last tally for a total of 477,269.

The state added 254 new deaths since Wednesday — including 188 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 12,029.

The MDHHS does not update its figures on Sundays.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state’s COVID-19 data site for the weekend showed 16 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 10 in Vilas County, three in Florence and Forest counties, and two in Iron County. Two deaths were added in Iron County.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Sunday had Marinette County with 3,492 confirmed cases, 322 probable cases and 42 deaths; Vilas County, 1,564 confirmed, 62 probable and 21 deaths, two probable deaths; Forest County, 827 confirmed, 59 probable and 22 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 413 confirmed, 108 probable and 15 deaths, 13 probable; and Florence County, 394 confirmed, 23 probable and 12 deaths. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 632 new positives Saturday and 2,287 on Sunday for a total of 470,818 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The state recorded four deaths Saturday and nine on Sunday to reach 4,692.
