Wisconsin health officials this weekend showed 60 new confirmed COVID-19 positives and five new virus-related deaths in Marinette County.
Marinette County leads the region on both sides of the border in COVID-19 activity at 3,116 confirmed cases as of Sunday, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services' COVID-19 data site. No county in Michigan's Upper Peninsula has yet to reach 3,000 cases.
In the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services' coronavirus data site Saturday listed 110 more confirmed positives: 24 in Marquette County; 22 in Chippewa County; 21 in Dickinson County; 15 in Houghton County; 12 in Delta County; six in Iron County; four in Menominee and Mackinac counties; two in Keweenaw, Alger and Schoolcraft counties; and one in Baraga and Ontonagon counties; Gogebic County's count was reduced by six. The state listed two new deaths in Marquette County and one each in Dickinson, Iron, Delta and Ontonagon counties, while removing a death in Gogebic County.
In total for the U.P., the MDHHS on Saturday had Keweenaw County at 62 confirmed cases and 13 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 122 confirmed cases and 55 probable; Alger County, 167 confirmed, 81 probable and one death, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 178 confirmed cases and 10 probable, one death and one probable; Mackinac County, 231 confirmed cases and 93 probable, one death; Ontonagon County, 264 confirmed, 28 probable and 14 deaths, one probable; Chippewa County, 404 confirmed cases and 537 probable, and six deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 424 confirmed cases, 80 probable and 24 deaths; Gogebic County, 620 confirmed cases and 246 probable, 11 confirmed deaths and 13 probable deaths; Iron County, 715 confirmed cases and 37 probable, 31 confirmed deaths and five probable; Menominee County, 1,260 confirmed cases, 150 probable and 19 deaths; Houghton County, 1,371 confirmed cases, 305 probable, 14 confirmed deaths and three probable; Dickinson County, 1,768 confirmed cases and 116 probable, 46 confirmed deaths and 10 probable; Delta County, 2,303 confirmed cases and 323 probable, 52 confirmed deaths and 12 probable; and Marquette County, 2,784 confirmed cases, 331 probable and 33 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Using only Saturday's state figures, the Upper Peninsula has had 12,673 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date and 254 deaths.
The MDHHS on Saturday reported 6,004 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan for a total of 395,036 to date. The state added 193 new deaths Saturday -- including 145 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS -- to reach 9,854.
The state no longer updates COVID-19 statistics on Sundays.
For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state's COVID-19 data site for the weekend showed the 60 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 20 in Vilas County, 14 in Florence County, 11 in Forest County and five in Iron County.
The WDHS on Sunday had Marinette County with 3,116 confirmed cases, 276 probable cases and 35 deaths; Vilas County, 1,347 confirmed, 39 probable and 13 deaths; Forest County, 756 confirmed, 48 probable and 19 deaths, plus two probable deaths; Iron County, 371 confirmed, 72 probable and 10 deaths, five probable; and Florence County, 352 confirmed, 26 probable and 12 deaths. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Wisconsin had 4,831 new positives Saturday and 2,791 on Sunday for a total of 412,177 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The state added 77 deaths Saturday and 17 on Sunday to reach 3,719.
