KINGSFORD -- The Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District superintendent, Wendy Warmuth, announced to the board of education she would retire at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. The board accepted Warmuth's retirement and expressed appreciation for her service to the ISD.

Warmuth has 33 years of service to the DIISD with the last 10 years as superintendent.

"I have been blessed with a wonderful career at our ISD and held many different positions including technology director, finance director for not only DIISD but heading the creation of the business consortium and becoming the finance director for Breitung Township, Iron Mountain, and IM-K Community Schools and lastly becoming the DIISD superintendent," she said.

"I enjoy working with all of you and anticipate that will be the hardest part of exiting this stage of my life -- I have gained so many friends. But new adventures are calling, the loudest of those voices are my two wonderful granddaughters along with all my family," she said to the staff.

"This past year has been unlike all others in my career but the essentials and heart of our ISD have not changed. We are dedicated to being partners in education with our local schools as well as supporting our departments," she said.

The ISD services six public schools, which includes Breitung Township, Iron Mountain, North Dickinson County, Norway-Vulcan, Forest Park and West Iron.

Dickinson-Iron ISD internal departments provide special education, career and technical education, early childhood education, and general education support.

Warmuth is dedicated to helping with transition plans and has no doubt that DIISD will continue to be strong, compassionate, and a leader in education with a new person at the helm.

The board of education is looking to hire a firm to assist with hiring the next superintendent and has worked on a time frame that should begin in January.
