State data shows 51 new COVID cases across UP
State health data sites Thursday listed 51 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula and 28 in Wisconsin counties in the region.
Across the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday added 10 new confirmed cases in Gogebic County; nine in Marquette County; eight in Houghton County; four each in Iron and Menominee counties; three each in Delta and Keweenaw counties; two each in Dickinson, Chippewa, Mackinac and Alger counties; and one each in Ontonagon and Baraga counties. The state added a new death in Iron County that had been reported locally, while Menominee County’s death toll was reduced by one.
In total for the U.P., the MDHHS data site Thursday listed Keweenaw County at 105 confirmed cases and 25 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 130 confirmed cases and 73 probable; Schoolcraft County, 226 confirmed cases and 23 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 272 confirmed, 152 probable and one death, two probable; Mackinac County, 277 confirmed cases and 143 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 320 confirmed, 35 probable and 17 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 486 confirmed cases, 91 probable and 30 deaths; Chippewa County, 688 confirmed cases and 1,006 probable, and 20 deaths, two probable; Gogebic County, 839 confirmed cases and 320 probable, 17 confirmed deaths and 27 probable; Iron County, 849 confirmed cases and 61 probable, 37 confirmed deaths and six probable; Menominee County, 1,588 confirmed cases, 255 probable and 33 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 1,983 confirmed cases, 481 probable, 31 confirmed deaths and seven probable; Dickinson County, 2,093 confirmed cases and 234 probable, 56 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,613 confirmed cases and 457 probable, 62 confirmed deaths and 18 probable; and Marquette County, 3,394 confirmed cases, 483 probable and 53 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Thursday has had 15,863 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 365 deaths.
The MDHHS on Thursday listed 1,872 confirmed new COVID-19 positives in Michigan for a total of 556,109. The state added 80 new deaths Thursday — including 67 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 14,491.
For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday showed 17 new confirmed positives in Vilas County, six in Marinette County, four in Florence County and one in Forest County. Vilas County had a new death as well.
The DHS on Thursday had Marinette County with 3,886 confirmed cases, 370 probable cases and 58 deaths, two probable deaths; Vilas County, 1,915 confirmed, 104 probable and 32 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 903 confirmed, 68 probable and 22 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 470 confirmed, 112 probable and 19 deaths, 17 probable; and Florence County, 422 confirmed, 32 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Wisconsin added 1,802 new positives Thursday for a total of 538,348 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state listed 24 new deaths Thursday to reach 5,811.
