IRON MOUNTAIN --Iron Mountain High School seniors Bryce Pietrantonio, son of Randy and Amy Pietrantonio of Kingsford, and Dante Basanese, son of Geno and Lisa Basanese of Iron Mountain have both secured a Presidential Leading Scholar Award from Michigan Technological University.
They were selected for exhibiting academic excellence and outstanding leadership skills both in and out of the classroom.
After submitting their applications to the university in October, they were notified that they were selected as finalists and invited to compete further on MTU's campus in December to determine which scholarship they would receive.
This was an accomplishment in itself as MTU receives over 1,000 applications for this award yearly, with only 40 applicants selected as finalists. Iron Mountain High School was one of only two Upper Peninsula schools to have multiple finalists.
Both students received a congratulatory letter on their achievement in January granting them the award of $10,000 a year for four years.
