Man killed in snowmobile trail crash in Marinette County

MARINETTE, Wis. — A Town of Porterfield man was found dead late Saturday after the snowmobile he was operating apparently went off trail on a curve and hit a tree in the town of Wagner in Marinette County.

Another snowmobiler came across the crashed snowmobile and man’s body just before midnight Saturday on trail No. S-1 just west of State Highway 180, according to a news release from Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve.

The man, 46-year-old Tony F. Camps, was pronounced dead at the crash site of head and internal injuries. Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation, Sauve stated in the news release.

The sheriff’s officers were assisted by Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources wardens, Wausaukee Rescue and the Wagner Fire Department.
