New virus deaths in Marquette, Menominee counties

State health data Thursday showed two new coronavirus-related deaths in the Upper Peninsula, along with 30 new confirmed COVID-19 positives.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday listed eight new confirmed cases in Keweenaw County; seven in Marquette County; four each in Menominee and Houghton counties; three in Gogebic County; and one each in Iron, Delta, Ontonagon and Mackinac counties. The deaths came in Menominee and Marquette counties.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Thursday has had 16,149 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 376 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Thursday had Keweenaw County at 112 confirmed cases and 26 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 132 confirmed cases and 82 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 229 confirmed cases and 28 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 275 confirmed, 156 probable and one death, two probable; Mackinac County, 279 confirmed cases and 150 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 352 confirmed, 51 probable and 18 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 497 confirmed cases, 98 probable and 31 deaths; Chippewa County, 707 confirmed cases and 1,012 probable, and 20 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 862 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 39 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 892 confirmed cases and 335 probable, 18 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,606 confirmed cases, 257 probable and 35 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 2,028 confirmed cases, 500 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Dickinson County, 2,116 confirmed cases and 236 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,630 confirmed cases and 462 probable, 65 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,432 confirmed cases, 493 probable and 54 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Thursday posted 1,284 confirmed new COVID-19 positives in Michigan for a total of 572,179. The state added 75 new deaths Thursday — including 55 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 15,052.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday had 10 new confirmed positives in Vilas County, nine in Iron County, four in Marinette County and two in Forest County.

The DHS on Thursday had Marinette County with 3,943 confirmed cases, 376 probable cases and 61 deaths, two probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,045 confirmed, 115 probable and 35 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 916 confirmed, 70 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 509 confirmed, 113 probable and 19 deaths, 18 probable; and Florence County, 430 confirmed, 34 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 1,239 new positives Thursday for a total of 553,110 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state posted 11 new deaths Thursday to reach 6,140.

The Dickinson-Iron County Health Department did not update local figures. The DIDHD on Wednesday had Dickinson County at 2,120 confirmed positives and 238 probable cases, with 2,189 recovered, 67 deaths and 102 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD had 863 confirmed cases and 64 probables, with 826 recovered, 45 deaths and 56 still active.
