Slower pace for Dickinson-Iron virus infections

Local health officials Wednesday added only a handful of new coronavirus positives in the area and no new deaths.

The Dickinson-Iron County Health Department on Wednesday reported three new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Dickinson County, while Iron County had two new positives. Both counties had seven recoveries each since the last update Monday.

The DIDHD on Wednesday had Dickinson County at 2,120 confirmed positives and 238 probable cases, with 2,189 recovered, 67 deaths and 102 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD had 863 confirmed cases and 64 probables, with 826 recovered, 45 deaths and 56 still active.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday showed 33 new confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula: 11 in Gogebic County; seven in Houghton County; three each in Delta and Marquette counties; two each in Dickinson,

Ontonagon and Baraga counties; and one each in Iron, Menominee and Chippewa counties. State figures reflected no new deaths in the U.P.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 104 confirmed cases and 26 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 132 confirmed cases and 80 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 229 confirmed cases and 28 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 275 confirmed, 156 probable and one death, two probable; Mackinac County, 278 confirmed cases and 150 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 351 confirmed, 51 probable and 18 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 497 confirmed cases, 98 probable and 31 deaths; Chippewa County, 707 confirmed cases and 1,011 probable, and 20 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 861 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 39 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 889 confirmed cases and 329 probable, 18 confirmed deaths and 27 probable; Menominee County, 1,602 confirmed cases, 256 probable and 34 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 2,024 confirmed cases, 498 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Dickinson County, 2,116 confirmed cases and 236 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,629 confirmed cases and 461 probable, 65 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,425 confirmed cases, 491 probable and 53 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 16,119 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 374 deaths.

The MDHHS on Wednesday listed 915 confirmed new COVID-19 positives in Michigan for a total of 570,895. The state added 12 new deaths Wednesday to reach 14,977.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday had seven new confirmed positives in Vilas County, three in Iron County and two in Marinette County. Forest County also posted a new death.

The DHS on Wednesday had Marinette County with 3,939 confirmed cases, 374 probable cases and 61 deaths, two probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,035 confirmed, 115 probable and 35 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 914 confirmed, 70 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 500 confirmed, 112 probable and 19 deaths, 18 probable; and Florence County, 430 confirmed, 34 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 821 new positives Wednesday for a total of 551,871 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state posted 35 new deaths Wednesday to reach 6,129.
