State: 40 new confirmed virus positives in UP

State figures Wednesday showed 40 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula but only one new death.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday listed 11 new virus cases in Gogebic County, which also had the new death; five in Marquette County; four in Houghton and Baraga counties; three in Chippewa County; two each in Dickinson, Iron, Menominee, Delta, Ontonagon and Alger counties; and one in Schoolcraft County.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 105 confirmed cases and 26 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 130 confirmed cases and 74 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 228 confirmed cases and 26 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 274 confirmed, 153 probable and one death, two probable; Mackinac County, 278 confirmed cases and 146 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 337 confirmed, 46 probable and 17 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 491 confirmed cases, 94 probable and 31 deaths; Chippewa County, 704 confirmed cases and 1,007 probable, and 20 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 856 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 39 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Gogebic County, 866 confirmed cases and 328 probable, 18 confirmed deaths and 27 probable; Menominee County, 1,595 confirmed cases, 257 probable and 33 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 2,002 confirmed cases, 483 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and seven probable; Dickinson County, 2,100 confirmed cases and 237 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,617 confirmed cases and 458 probable, 63 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,412 confirmed cases, 489 probable and 53 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 15,995 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 370 deaths.

The MDHHS on Wednesday listed 1,383 confirmed new COVID-19 positives in Michigan for a total of 563,893. The state added 32 new deaths to reach 14,704.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday had 14 additional confirmed positives in Vilas County, five in Marinette County and one in Florence County; the state also decreased Forest County’s count by one.

The DHS on Wednesday had Marinette County with 3,917 confirmed cases, 373 probable cases and 61 deaths, two probable deaths; Vilas County, 1,982 confirmed, 112 probable and 32 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 913 confirmed, 69 probable and 22 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 476 confirmed, 112 probable and 19 deaths, 18 probable; and Florence County, 427 confirmed, 35 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 1,177 new positives Wednesday for a total of 545,437 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state posted 14 new deaths Wednesday to reach 5,951.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department did not update local numbers Wednesday.

The DIDHD on Tuesday had Dickinson County at 2,102 confirmed positives and 238 probable cases, with 2,136 recovered, 67 deaths and 137 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD had 856 confirmed cases and 64 probables, with 791 recovered, 44 deaths and 85 still active.
