State records 12 new UP virus cases; two deaths in Delta County

State health data Saturday showed a total of 12 new COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula along with two new deaths, both in Delta County.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Saturday added five new confirmed virus positives in Dickinson County; three in Chippewa County; and one each in Iron, Marquette, Gogebic, Ontonagon and Baraga counties; Houghton County’s count was reduced by one.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Saturday had Keweenaw County at 104 confirmed cases and 26 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 131 confirmed cases and 77 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 229 confirmed cases and 28 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 275 confirmed, 155 probable and one death, two probable; Mackinac County, 278 confirmed cases and 149 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 345 confirmed, 51 probable and 18 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 493 confirmed cases, 98 probable and 31 deaths; Chippewa County, 706 confirmed cases and 1,007 probable, and 20 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 858 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 39 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 873 confirmed cases and 329 probable, 18 confirmed deaths and 27 probable; Menominee County, 1,598 confirmed cases, 256 probable and 34 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 2,010 confirmed cases, 491 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and seven probable; Dickinson County, 2,113 confirmed cases and 236 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,622 confirmed cases and 459 probable, 65 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,421 confirmed cases, 490 probable and 53 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Saturday has had 16,056 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 374 deaths.

The MDHHS on Saturday listed 1,018 confirmed new COVID-19 positives in Michigan for a total of 567,648. The state added 97 new deaths — including 82 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 14,894.

The MDHHS no longer updates state COVID-19 figures on Sundays.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site this weekend had 13 new confirmed positives in Vilas County, four in Marinette County, two in Iron County and one in Florence County.

The DHS on Saturday had Marinette County with 3,931 confirmed cases, 374 probable cases and 61 deaths, two probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,022 confirmed, 112 probable and 32 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 914 confirmed, 70 probable and 22 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 489 confirmed, 112 probable and 19 deaths, 18 probable; and Florence County, 430 confirmed, 34 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 934 new positives Saturday and 671 Sunday for a total of 549,826 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state posted 60 new deaths Saturday but only two Sunday to reach 6,054.
