State shows only 13 new COVID-19 cases in UP

Michigan’s COVID-19 data site indicated only a baker’s dozen of new confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula as of Saturday.

Department of Health and Human Services figures posted Saturday showed six new confirmed cases in Houghton County, three in Keweenaw County, two in Menominee County, and one each in Dickinson and Ontonagon counties. The state also added a new death in Iron County, though its figures still do not match what the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department has posted.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Saturday has had 16,291 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 382 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Saturday had Keweenaw County at 112 confirmed cases and 29 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 132 confirmed cases and 83 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 229 confirmed cases and 28 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 277 confirmed, 156 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 282 confirmed cases and 151 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 358 confirmed, 52 probable and 19 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 503 confirmed cases, 98 probable and 32 deaths; Chippewa County, 714 confirmed cases and 1,015 probable, and 22 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 864 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 40 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 910 confirmed cases and 338 probable, 19 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,614 confirmed cases, 261 probable and 35 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 2,087 confirmed cases, 517 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Dickinson County, 2,123 confirmed cases and 236 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,640 confirmed cases and 470 probable, 65 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,442 confirmed cases, 493 probable and 54 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS posted 635 confirmed new COVID-19 positives in Michigan on Saturday for a total of 579,919. The state added 63 new deaths Saturday — including 57 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 15,359.

Michigan no longer provides COVID-19 data updates on Sundays.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site this weekend had four new confirmed positives in Marinette County, two in Forest County and one in Iron County.

The DHS on Sunday had Marinette County with 3,970 confirmed cases, 379 probable cases and 62 deaths, two probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,080 confirmed, 121 probable and 36 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 924 confirmed, 69 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 531 confirmed, 116 probable and 20 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 432 confirmed, 34 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 1,079 new positives this weekend for a total of 559,575 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state posted 17 new deaths Saturday but no new deaths Sunday — the first day with no deaths since September — to reach 6,284.
