Welcome to “Throwback Thursdays,” a new weekly feature in The Daily News that is an extension of the “Back in Time” photos regularly posted on Facebook.

This idea started when Dave Kallmann, a former photographer at The Daily News, began looking for a particular image of a hummingbird. During his search, he discovered other photos he had taken during his time at the newspaper and decided to put them on Facebook.

Wanting to share those memories with the public, Daily News Circulation Manager Jennifer Flynn got Kallmann’s permission to post his photos on The Daily News’ Facebook page, giving rise to “Back in Time.”

The Daily News then asks Facebook friends to help identify the people in the photos. “We have many pictures, many with no names — that is what has made this so much fun,” Flynn said.

The Facebook “Back in Time” has proven popular and drew several requests to incorporate the photos into the print edition as well.

So each Thursday, The Daily News will reprint some of the “Back in Time” photos, plus others that have not seen the light of day in years.

“We hope that you enjoy this new feature as much as we do,” Flynn said.
