Dickinson has first virus death since early January

Dickinson County reported its first coronavirus-related death in two months Thursday, along with three new confirmed COVID-19 positives, according to local health officials.

The county also had five recovered cases, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department posted in its update on its Facebook page. Iron County had one probable case and one recovered case.

The DIDHD on Thursday had Dickinson County at 2,139 confirmed positives and 241 probable cases, with 2,279 recovered, 68 deaths and 33 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD had 868 confirmed cases and 64 probables, with 872 recovered, 46 deaths and 14 still active.

The Upper Peninsula as a region added 19 new confirmed COVID-19 positives Thursday, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 site.

The MDHHS’ COVID-19 data site Thursday showed four new cases in Delta and Houghton counties; three in Marquette and Chippewa counties; two in Dickinson County; and one each in Schoolcraft, Gogebic and Ontonagon counties.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Thursday has had 16,470 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 386 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Thursday had Keweenaw County at 115 confirmed cases and 29 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 132 confirmed cases and 94 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 230 confirmed cases and 28 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 278 confirmed, 157 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 292 confirmed cases and 153 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 359 confirmed, 52 probable and 19 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 507 confirmed cases, 100 probable and 32 deaths; Chippewa County, 729 confirmed cases and 1,040 probable, and 23 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 866 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 40 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 936 confirmed cases and 345 probable, 20 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,617 confirmed cases, 263 probable and 36 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,133 confirmed cases and 240 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,139 confirmed cases, 533 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 2,671 confirmed cases and 480 probable, 65 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,466 confirmed cases, 503 probable and 55 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Thursday posted 1,526 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total of 593,279. The state added 37 new deaths Thursday — including 29 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 15,600.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday had seven new confirmed positives in Vilas County, which also had two new deaths; four new cases in Marinette and Iron counties; and one in Forest County.

The DHS on Thursday had Marinette County with 3,966 confirmed cases, 404 probable cases and 63 deaths, three probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,151 confirmed, 126 probable and 38 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 925 confirmed, 69 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 550 confirmed, 117 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 434 confirmed, 34 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 677 new positives Thursday for a total of 565,808 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 12 new deaths Thursday to reach 6,470.
