IM students chosen for leadership conference

IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain High School sophomores Callie Bianco, Aziza Burgoon, Carson McLean and Ellison Powell have been selected to attend MYLead — the Michigan Youth Leadership Conference — in May on the Michigan State University campus in East Lansing.

Bianco is the daughter of Patti and Donny Bianco of Breitung Township. During her time at IMHS, she has participated in Key Club, Youth Advisory Committee, Tri-Hi-Y, student council and Varsity Club. She has also been a member of the varsity tennis team, JV basketball and varsity basketball. Outside of the classroom, Bianco is also employed part-time.

Burgoon is the daughter of Fouzia and Paul Burgoon of Iron Mountain. Burgoon has been active in student council, Varsity Club, Key Club, Tri-Hi-Y and the newly formed BeNice group. She has participated in varsity tennis and outside of school the U19 AA girl’s hockey team. She also helps with Salvation Army bell-ringing and community service projects at the ice arena and the baseball field.

McLean is the son of Angela and Jeff McLean of Breitung Township. He has participated in both JV and varsity football and both JV basketball and varsity baseball. He also earned a physical fitness award. Outside of school, McLean is involved at his church and volunteers his time at community meals as well as at elementary and middle school sporting events.

Powell is the daughter of Shannon and Jeff Powell of Breitung Township. While at IMHS, she has been a member of student council, Tri-Hi-Y Club, Varsity Club and Key Club. She is also active in basketball, volleyball and softball, where she served as team captain. Outside of the classroom, Powell is involved in her youth group and travel softball as well as AAU basketball.

“Iron Mountain High School is very proud to have these fine young students representing IMHS at the MYLead conference,” said Mel Laydon, scholarship administrator.
