State shows only 11 new COVID-19 cases in UP

The Upper Peninsula added 11 new confirmed COVID-19 positives Saturday, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

The MDHHS’ COVID-19 data site Saturday showed four new cases in Marquette County; two in Houghton, Schoolcraft and Chippewa counties; and one in Iron County. Delta County had the only new death in the region.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Saturday has had 16,498 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 386 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Saturday had Keweenaw County at 116 confirmed cases and 29 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 132 confirmed cases and 98 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 232 confirmed cases and 28 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 279 confirmed, 157 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 294 confirmed cases and 154 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 359 confirmed, 54 probable and 19 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 507 confirmed cases, 99 probable and 32 deaths; Chippewa County, 733 confirmed cases and 1,041 probable, and 23 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 867 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 40 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 943 confirmed cases and 346 probable, 20 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,619 confirmed cases, 263 probable and 36 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,133 confirmed cases and 240 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,149 confirmed cases, 537 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 2,673 confirmed cases and 484 probable, 66 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,473 confirmed cases, 506 probable and 55 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Saturday posted 1,289 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total of 596,054. The state added 56 new deaths Saturday — including 48 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 15,666. The MDHHS no longer updates state figures on Sundays.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site this weekend had five new confirmed positives in Vilas County, two in Iron County and one each in Marinette and Forest counties. The state also reduced Florence County’s confirmed count by 12 while increasing its probable cases by 13.

The DHS on Sunday had Marinette County with 3,970 confirmed cases, 404 probable cases and 63 deaths, three probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,156 confirmed, 125 probable and 38 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 925 confirmed, 69 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 552 confirmed, 120 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 422 confirmed, 47 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 535 new positives as of Sunday for a total of 566,693 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded four new deaths this weekend to reach 6,481.
