UP adds 17 virus cases, no deaths

The Upper Peninsula added 17 new confirmed COVID-19 positives Wednesday but no new deaths attributed to the virus, according to state health data.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 site Wednesday showed seven new confirmed cases in Gogebic County, three each in Delta and Chippewa counties, two in Houghton County and one each in Marquette and Alger counties. The state also reduced Houghton County’s death toll by one.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 16,451 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 385 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 115 confirmed cases and 29 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 132 confirmed cases and 93 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 229 confirmed cases and 28 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 278 confirmed, 157 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 292 confirmed cases and 152 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 358 confirmed, 52 probable and 19 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 507 confirmed cases, 100 probable

and 32 deaths; Chippewa County, 726 confirmed cases and 1,039 probable, and 23 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 866 confirmed cases and 61 probable, 40 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 935 confirmed cases and 343 probable, 20 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,617 confirmed cases, 263 probable and 35 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,131 confirmed cases and 240 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,135 confirmed cases, 527 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 2,667 confirmed cases and 478 probable, 65 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,463 confirmed cases, 503 probable and 55 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday posted 1,536 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total of 591,753. The state added five new deaths Wednesday to reach 15,563.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday had three new confirmed positives in Vilas County, two in Marinette County and one in Iron County, which had a new virus-related death as well.

The DHS on Wednesday had Marinette County with 3,962 confirmed cases, 404 probable cases and 63 deaths, three probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,144 confirmed, 126 probable and 36 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 924 confirmed, 69 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 546 confirmed, 117 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 434 confirmed, 34 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 539 new positives Wednesday for a total of 565,131 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 18 new deaths Wednesday to reach 6,458.
