More than half of residents age 65 and older in Dickinson and Iron counties had received at least their first COVID-19 vaccination by the end of February, local health officials reported.
After several weeks with the COVID-19 vaccines available to the top priority groups, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department posted Monday that as of Feb. 27 about 60% of those age 65 to 74 and 55.9% of those ages 75 and older in Dickinson County have begun the vaccination series, for an average of 58.2% of the population age 65 and older, or 3,347, having received at least their first shot; 34.8%, or 2,004, have completed both shots. Among the county's general population, 24.1%, or 5,022, have started the vaccine and 15.6%, or 3,236, have finished both shots.
In Iron County, 56.3% of those age 65 to 74 and 53.2% of those ages 75 and older have begun the vaccination series, for an average of 55.1% of the population age 65 and older, or 1,903, having received at least their first shot; 34%, or 1,174, have completed both shots. Among the county's general population, 28.7%, or 2,589, have started the vaccine and 18.3%, or 1,652, have finished both shots, according to the DIDHD.
The DIDHD on Monday had Dickinson County at 2,142 confirmed COVID-19 positives and 241 probable cases, with 2,287 recovered, 68 deaths and 28 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD had 868 confirmed cases and 64 probables, with 877 recovered, 46 deaths and nine active.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services' COVID-19 data site Tuesday showed only seven new confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula: two in Menominee and Baraga counties; and one each in Delta, Marquette and Gogebic counties.
Using only the state's figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 16,539 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 387 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 116 confirmed cases and 29 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 132 confirmed cases and 101 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 232 confirmed cases and 31 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 279 confirmed, 157 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 294 confirmed cases and 155 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 362 confirmed, 57 probable and 19 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 509 confirmed cases, 99 probable and 32 deaths; Chippewa County, 733 confirmed cases and 1,044 probable, and 23 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 866 confirmed cases and 61 probable, 40 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 945 confirmed cases and 346 probable, 20 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,624 confirmed cases, 264 probable and 36 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,136 confirmed cases and 240 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,155 confirmed cases, 535 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 2,680 confirmed cases and 486 probable, 66 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,476 confirmed cases, 511 probable and 55 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Tuesday posted 954 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total of 598,968. The state added 29 new deaths Tuesday -- including eight that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS -- to reach 15,699.
For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services' COVID-19 data site Tuesday had four new confirmed positives in Vilas County, three in Marinette County and one each in Iron and Forest counties; Florence County's count was reduced by one.
The DHS on Tuesday had Marinette County with 3,973 confirmed cases, 404 probable cases and 63 deaths, three probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,160 confirmed, 124 probable and 38 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 926 confirmed, 70 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 553 confirmed, 119 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 421 confirmed, 47 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Wisconsin added 463 new positives Tuesday for a total of 567,334 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 29 new deaths Tuesday to reach 6,510.
