Holmes tapped as Breitung Township Schools superintendent

DAVID HOLMES

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP — Kingsford High School Principal David Holmes has been chosen as the next superintendent of Breitung Township Schools.

The school board selected Holmes from among two internal candidates — the other was Woodland Elementary Principal Darren Petschar — after “impressive interviews” Saturday, according to a news release from board president Mark Pugh.

Holmes was hired in 1999 as a high school social studies teacher. Since then, he has been assistant middle school principal and middle school principal before becoming high school principal in 2019.

He will succeed Craig Allen, who announced in February he planned to retire after three decades with the district. Allen is set to step down June 30, with Holmes taking over for the 2021-2022 school year, the release stated.

The board thanked Allen for his “passion for Flivver Nation” and wished him well in the future.
