Marquette, Delta counties lead 87 new cases in UP

State COVID-19 data Thursday showed 87 more confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula, with Marquette and Delta counties accounting for more than 50 of those cases.

Locally, the state listed nine new confirmed positives in Dickinson County and one in Iron County.

For the U.P., the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Thursday listed 28 new positives in Marquette County; 24 in Delta County; nine in Dickinson County; five in Houghton, Mackinac and Chippewa counties; four in Menominee County; three in Baraga County; two in Gogebic County; and one each in Iron and Luce counties.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Thursday has had 17,669 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 400 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Thursday had Keweenaw County at 125 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 148 confirmed cases and 143 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 269 confirmed cases and 49 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 293 confirmed, 174 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 337 confirmed cases and 186 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 378 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 524 confirmed cases, 110 probable and 33 deaths; Iron County, 889 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Chippewa County, 903 confirmed cases and 1,236 probable, and 25 deaths, five probable; Gogebic County, 977 confirmed cases and 357 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,668 confirmed cases, 291 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,223 confirmed cases and 271 probable, 55 deaths and 16 probable; Houghton County, 2,321 confirmed cases, 569 probable, 32 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 2,876 confirmed cases and 534 probable, 68 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,738 confirmed cases, 684 probable and 55 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Thursday posted 7,819 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total of 723,297. The state added 73 new deaths — including 43 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 16,400.

In Wisconsin, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday had three new confirmed positives in Forest and Vilas counties, two in Marinette County and one in Florence County.

The DHS on Thursday had Marinette County with 4,018 confirmed cases, 421 probable cases and 65 deaths, three probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,201 confirmed, 142 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 941 confirmed, 75 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 570 confirmed, 116 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 435 confirmed, 50 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 1,046 new positives Thursday — its largest one-day increase in two months — for a total of 582,843 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state listed 14 new deaths Thursday to reach 6,667.
