State adds 62 new virus cases across UP

State data Tuesday showed only three new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County, while Wisconsin’s Marinette County gained 10 more cases.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Tuesday listed 62 new confirmed cases: 19 in Marquette County; 12 in Delta County; seven in Chippewa County; five in Mackinac County; four in Schoolcraft County; three in Dickinson and Baraga counties; two in Menominee, Houghton and Keweenaw counties; and one each in Alger, Luce and Gogebic counties. The region had no new deaths.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 18,548 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 405 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 138 confirmed cases and 31 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 163 confirmed cases and 160 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 279 confirmed cases and 50 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 301 confirmed, 182 probable and two deaths, four probable; Mackinac County, 370 confirmed cases and 216 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 390 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 539 confirmed cases, 111 probable and 33 deaths; Iron County, 912 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Chippewa County, 983 confirmed cases and 1,291 probable, and 27 deaths, five probable; Gogebic County, 996 confirmed cases and 358 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,709 confirmed cases, 303 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,313 confirmed cases and 292 probable, 56 deaths and 16 probable; Houghton County, 2,401 confirmed cases, 587 probable, 32 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,078 confirmed cases and 567 probable, 68 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,976 confirmed cases, 733 probable and 56 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Tuesday posted 5,259 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 799,140. The state recorded 85 deaths attributed to the virus Tuesday — including 33 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 16,986.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Tuesday had the 10 new confirmed positives in Marinette County but reduced Florence County’s count by one and Vilas County’s by three.

The DHS on Tuesday had Marinette County with 4,058 confirmed cases, 432 probable cases and 65 deaths, three probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,219 confirmed, 145 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 945 confirmed, 77 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 571 confirmed, 117 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 441 confirmed, 54 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 805 new positives Tuesday for a total of 591,636 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state listed eight new deaths Tuesday to reach 6,718.
