State: Eight more virus positives in Dickinson

State COVID-19 data Wednesday showed eight more COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County but only one in Iron County, as the recent rise in cases seems to be leveling off.

On a statewide level, Michigan on Wednesday surpassed 800,000 confirmed COVID-19 positives and 17,000 deaths.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Wednesday listed 66 new confirmed positives: 17 in Delta County; 16 in Marquette County; eight in Dickinson County; seven in Houghton County; six in Menominee and Chippewa counties; three in Schoolcraft County; two in Baraga County; and one each in Iron, Luce and Gogebic counties; Keweenaw County’s count was reduced by two. The region again had no new deaths attributed to the virus.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 18,614 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 405 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 136 confirmed cases and 31 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 164 confirmed cases and 164 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 282 confirmed cases and 53 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 301 confirmed, 185 probable and two deaths, four probable; Mackinac County, 370 confirmed cases and 218 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 390 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 541 confirmed cases, 111 probable and 33 deaths; Iron County, 913 confirmed cases and 63 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Chippewa County, 989 confirmed cases and 1,308 probable, and 27 deaths, five probable; Gogebic County, 997 confirmed cases and 358 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,715 confirmed cases, 306 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,321 confirmed cases and 299 probable, 56 deaths and 16 probable; Houghton County, 2,408 confirmed cases, 594 probable, 32 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,095 confirmed cases and 576 probable, 68 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,992 confirmed cases, 752 probable and 56 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday posted 5,584 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 804,724. The state recorded 45 deaths attributed to the virus Wednesday to reach 17,031.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday had five new confirmed positives in Marinette County, two in Vilas County and one each in Florence and Forest counties.

The DHS on Wednesday had Marinette County with 4,063 confirmed cases, 430 probable cases and 65 deaths, three probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,221 confirmed, 145 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 946 confirmed, 77 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 571 confirmed, 117 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 442 confirmed, 54 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 626 new positives Wednesday for a total of 592,262 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state listed three new deaths Wednesday to reach 6,721.
