UP Clean Energy Conference plans Zoom event

HOUGHTON — The fifth in a series of webinars organized as the U.P. Clean Energy Conference will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Eastern time Friday, via Zoom. There is no cost for the conference.

The conference objective is to leverage recommendations from the U.P. Energy Task Force report that was submitted to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on March 31 as a catalyst for a more self-reliant, sustainable and affordable U.P. energy future.

The event will feature two panel sessions, leading off with a discussion on the U.P. Energy Task Force’s report and recommendations. Dr. Richelle Winkler of Michigan Technological University will moderate the panel with several task force members who are U.P. residents, including Jenn Hill, Michael Larson and Tony Retaskie.

The second session will be a policy conversation with state representatives and senators about the task force’s legislative recommendations, moderated by Marty Fittante from InvestUP. Senators Ed McBroom and Wayne Schmidt and Representatives Greg Markkanen, Sara Cambensy, Beau LaFave, and John Damoose are invited to participate in the webinar.

Michigan Tech is hosting the Zoom event and is among a dozen U.P.-based organizations sponsoring the webinar series, including Superior Watershed Partnership, Northern Michigan University, Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians, Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, Bay Mills Indian Community, Michigan Energy Options, and all three U.P. regional planning agencies.

The final virtual conference date in May has yet to be determined. Register at https://www.upcleanenergy.org.
