Iron County adds eight virus cases; Dickinson has two

State data Wednesday showed eight more confirmed COVID-19 positives in Iron County but only two new cases in Dickinson County.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Wednesday added 46 new confirmed positives: 10 in Marquette County; eight in Iron and Baraga counties; six in Delta County; five in Houghton County; three in Mackinac County; two in Dickinson and Menominee counties; and one each in Schoolcraft, Luce and Gogebic counties; Chippewa County’s count was reduced by one. Baraga County had the region’s only new coronavirus-related death.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 19,332 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 412 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 142 confirmed cases and 31 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 185 confirmed cases and 193 probable, one confirmed death and one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 301 confirmed cases and 62 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 318 confirmed, 187 probable and two deaths, four probable; Ontonagon County, 397 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 402 confirmed cases and 226 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 602 confirmed cases, 118 probable and 35 deaths; Iron County, 952 confirmed cases and 67 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,008 confirmed cases and 360 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,038 confirmed cases and 1,363 probable, and 27 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,751 confirmed cases, 317 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,363 confirmed cases and 326 probable, 58 deaths and 16 probable; Houghton County, 2,463 confirmed cases, 598 probable, 32 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,249 confirmed cases and 642 probable, 69 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,161 confirmed cases, 791 probable and 57 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday posted 2,589 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 854,536. The state Wednesday recorded 42 deaths attributed to the virus to reach 17,939.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday had three new confirmed positives in Marinette County, two in Vilas County and one in Forest County.

The DHS on Wednesday had Marinette County with 4,136 confirmed cases, 451 probable cases and 66 deaths, four probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,243 confirmed, 146 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 959 confirmed, 79 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 576 confirmed, 117 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 446 confirmed, 55 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 639 new positives Wednesday for a total of 600,936 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state listed 13 new deaths Wednesday to reach 6,863.
