Marinette County adds 18 virus cases, Florence a new death

Wisconsin COVID-19 data Tuesday showed 18 new confirmed positives in Marinette County.
In Florence County, local health officials reported a coronavirus-related death, its first fatal case in months. The person, who was not identified, was between 30 to 60 years old, the Florence County Health Department stated in a news release. No other information was provided to protect the family’s privacy.
The FCHD added, “Public health officials strongly encourage all eligible individuals to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.”
For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Tuesday added 51 new confirmed positives: 10 in Marquette County; seven in Delta County; six in Houghton County; five in Baraga County; four in Menominee, Luce and Chippewa counties; three in Dickinson and Schoolcraft counties; two in Iron and Mackinac counties; and one in Ontonagon County. Delta County had the only new death in the region.
Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 19,574 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 418 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 142 confirmed cases and 31 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 192 confirmed cases and 214 probable, one confirmed death and one probable death; Alger County, 319 confirmed, 190 probable and two deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 323 confirmed cases and 69 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 401 confirmed, 57 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 415 confirmed cases and 232 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 631 confirmed cases, 121 probable and 36 deaths; Iron County, 963 confirmed cases and 67 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,018 confirmed cases and 361 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,057 confirmed cases and 1,378 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,766 confirmed cases, 318 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,375 confirmed cases and 326 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,484 confirmed cases, 603 probable, 32 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,286 confirmed cases and 666 probable, 72 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,202 confirmed cases, 797 probable and 57 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Tuesday posted 1,992 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 867,341. The state Tuesday had 99 deaths attributed to the virus — including 32 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 18,338.
For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Tuesday had the 18 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, two in Vilas County and one in Iron County.
The DHS on Tuesday had Marinette County with 4,160 confirmed cases, 459 probable cases and 66 deaths, four probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,251 confirmed, 146 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 960 confirmed, 79 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 578 confirmed, 119 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 446 confirmed, 55 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Wisconsin added 517 new positives Tuesday for a total of 603,820 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state listed 13 new deaths Tuesday to reach 6,917.
