NIAGARA, Wis. -- Mackenzie Clifford, a senior at Norway High School, found a way to help make the isolation inflicted on nursing home residents a little easier through a class project.
Jacqueline Leiker's technology class at Norway High School selects a 20 Percent Time Project for each Friday.
Clifford chose to raise money and donate care packages for the residents of Maryhill Manor Nursing Home in Niagara, Wis. She collected funds through donations, shopped for all of the items, assembled the gift bags and then delivered them to the residents at Maryhill.
"I chose this particular project because during COVID-19, the residents needed a little gift to brighten up their lives," Clifford said. "I am super proud of how much money I raised and how great this project turned out."
Gift bags included lotions, shampoo and conditioners, puzzles, puzzle books, women's and men's razors, candy, puzzle sorters, books and candy bars. Clifford was able to deliver the gift bags to each resident, which was appreciated as much as their contents.
"We would all like to thank Mackenzie for selecting Maryhill residents as the recipients of her project," said Danielle Novak, activities director at Maryhill Manor. "And we also greatly appreciate all who donated and assisted her in this very worthwhile project."
