COVID-19 activity continues to wane in the Upper Peninsula, with state data showing only 15 more confirmed positives across the region Thursday.
For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services' coronavirus website Thursday added a net of 15 more confirmed cases: five in Baraga County; two in Dickinson, Menominee, Luce and Chippewa counties; and one each in Iron, Schoolcraft and Houghton counties; Mackinac County's count was reduced by one. Delta and Menominee counties had the region's only new deaths at one each, according to the state.
Using only the state's figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Thursday has had 19,953 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 431 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Thursday had Keweenaw County at 143 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 218 confirmed cases and 251 probable, three confirmed death and one probable death; Alger County, 321 confirmed, 194 probable and two deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 349 confirmed cases and 83 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 415 confirmed, 59 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 452 confirmed cases and 252 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 678 confirmed cases, 122 probable and 37 deaths; Iron County, 982 confirmed cases and 69 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,038 confirmed cases and 362 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,077 confirmed cases and 1,393 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,788 confirmed cases, 325 probable and 41 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,396 confirmed cases and 335 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,519 confirmed cases, 606 probable, 34 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,334 confirmed cases and 687 probable, 75 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,243 confirmed cases, 818 probable and 60 deaths, one probable.
The MDHHS on Thursday posted 542 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 886,660. The state Thursday had 59 deaths attributed to the virus -- including 48 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS -- to reach 19,090.
For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services' COVID-19 data site Thursday had three new confirmed positives in Marinette County and one each in Iron and Forest counties; Vilas County's count went down by one.
The DHS on Thursday had Marinette County with 4,219 confirmed cases, 472 probable cases and 65 deaths, four probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,279 confirmed, 147 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 962 confirmed, 79 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 581 confirmed, 120 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 451 confirmed, 55 probable and 13 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Wisconsin added 272 new positives Thursday for a total of 609,561 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state posted 7,040 deaths Thursday.
