Recoveries outpace new virus cases in Dickinson, Iron counties

Local health officials Monday reported six more confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County and five new cases in Iron County since its last update Thursday.

In a Facebook post Monday, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department also listed three new probable positives and 39 recovered cases in Dickinson County, while Iron County had 16 considered recovered from the virus.

The agency had Dickinson County at 2,392 confirmed positives and 333 probable cases, with 2,536 recovered, 72 deaths and 117 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD had 978 confirmed cases and 69 probables, with 930 recovered, 48 deaths and 69 active cases.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Monday added 25 new confirmed positives for the two-day period: four in Delta and Marquette counties; two in Dickinson, Menominee, Schoolcraft, Luce, Mackinac and Baraga counties; and one each in Iron, Chippewa, Gogebic, Ontonagon and Houghton counties. The state’s figures did not show any new deaths in the region.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 19,760 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 423 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Monday had Keweenaw County at 143 confirmed cases and 33 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 202 confirmed cases and 228 probable, two confirmed death and one probable death; Alger County, 320 confirmed, 192 probable and two deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 331 confirmed cases and 79 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 408 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 436 confirmed cases and 242 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 651 confirmed cases, 123 probable and 37 deaths; Iron County, 974 confirmed cases and 67 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,032 confirmed cases and 362 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,065 confirmed cases and 1,384 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,780 confirmed cases, 322 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,384 confirmed cases and 331 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,497 confirmed cases, 605 probable, 32 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,316 confirmed cases and 672 probable, 72 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,221 confirmed cases, 808 probable and 60 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Monday posted 2,230 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Saturday for a total to date of 876,854. The state Monday had 20 deaths attributed to the virus for the two-day period to reach 18,627.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Monday had only two new confirmed positives, both in Vilas County.

The DHS on Monday had Marinette County with 4,181 confirmed cases, 464 probable cases and 65 deaths, four probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,268 confirmed, 146 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 961 confirmed, 79 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 578 confirmed, 119 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 448 confirmed, 54 probable and 13 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 116 new positives Monday for a total of 606,274 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state posted no new deaths Monday to remain at 6,958.
